Sentence builder on opinions about living in the town versus country.
Aimed at helping students express an opinion on whether living in the Town or Country is better. Guided sentences then a chance to give their own opinion.
This is a sheet I made to test my Foundation Spanish on the topic we have completed: family and friends.
The first activity is a photo to describe. It’s just a photo of me at my computer (!) because the example one in the text book was a family looking at a laptop so it’s quite similar. You could change the photo!
The second activity is the 40 word writing on family and friends.
My year 11 love Bigflo et Oli since we did the song Plus Tard and often ask for it.
I made this for their song: Dommage
First sheet is a gapfill
Second sheet is a translation with some words in bold - the idea is the students ocmpare the two versions and underline the same words on the French version
Reinforcement activities for teaching greetings - a sheet where you provide the listening activity by reading out words for the students to highlight which they heard, or shade the correct boxes.
A sentence builder to make their own classroom requests
English sentences about family. Students translate orally into Target Language. They start off simple and build. Can be used for around the class, pair or group work.
I usually do this as pair or small group work. First student says sentence 1, second student sentence 2 and carry on taking turns. Can be given to FLA.
I use the same sentences several times, the students get quicker and better. Could be a main activity in one lesson and a quick starter the next.
While I aim this at GCSE students it could make a challenge for good younger students.
Basic vocab filler and sentence builder on doing activities. Activities in the infinitive made into a sentence with a modal verb. Days of the week.
Intended for use with a low ability class as an independent task.
Very easy and repetitive verb sheet. To follow the first time I introduce the verb hablar or the concept of verb endings to a low ability Spanish class.
It’s the verb written out and then they have to fill it in several different ways.
As my hallowe’en / end of half term activity this year we will be watching the trailer for the new Disney film Encanto due out very soon, doing observation questions, a gapfill and picking out vocab.
Enjoy!
Beginner Spanish students write a poem/chant about seasons, weather, clothes and body parts
It’s based on this amazing one https://rockalingua.com/videos/winter-timbo-and-friends
There are some lovely things on Rockalingua, I do recommend it
English sentences about food and diet. Students translate orally into Target Language. They start off simple and build. Can be used for around the class, pair or group work.
I usually do this as pair or small group work. First student says sentence 1, second student sentence 2 and carry on taking turns.
I use the same sentences several times, the students get quicker and better. Could be a main activity in one lesson and a quick starter the next.
While I aim this at GCSE students could make a nice sixthform starter or a challenge for good younger students.
2 versions, one with more challenge.
Mark out of 10
2 versions on the sheet. This is my way of discouraging cheating. I give the tests out alternately so the people sat next to each other have the questions in a different order. I don’t tell students this, I just do it. I collect for marking.
Introduction of Les Restos du Coeur and their work to year 13. Brief explanation in English. The Restos du Coeur song linked in with a brief listening exercise. Finally a couple of exercises based on the new campaign for Winter 2014. Students watch the video and answer in French, then a gapfill. Could be homework. It took my students about 50 minutes in a computer room - they could control the video themsleves. Answer sheet given.
I have been running a French reading club inspired by this blog https://whoteacheslanguages.blogspot.com/
We are reading the novel La Rivière à l’Envers
Some weeks we just read, some weeks we use the BD, some weeks we listen to Audible
Some weeks we skip a bit
Some weeks I have made support materials. I will add them here as I go along. Please use if you wish

On 2 sides of A4 for easy printing
Easy Spanish worksheet to support students writing a short paragraph describing a friend, including desde hace and a description.
Starts with vocabulary to fill in then works on sentences on the first sheet.
On the second sheet there is an example paragraph with a gapped translation and phrases to find which will support students in writing their own version.
This scaffolded sheet should support students to work from words up to a paragraph with minimal teacher input so could be used for cover, homework or simply for when you need students to be able to work independently in class.
I made the sheet for my Foundation GCSE class (who need support and don’t like too much challenge) but it could be used with confident near beginners too.
Very structured and easy worksheet leading up to writing a short piece about family. starts with vocabulary, then sentences, then an example paragraph. Students should be able to write their own short piece at the end.
Two sides of A4 for easy printing
French GCSE worksheet on topic of homeless (social problems). Aim is to use the example paragraphs to complete a Higher level translation into French.
Spot the difference activity where students compare similar paragraph about homeless people, highlight the differences between the paragraphs and complete a comprehension activity on each picking out the main points.
Students then use elements from different paragraphs (plus a small amount of prior knowledge!) to translate a similar passage from English to French.
French worksheet building up sentences about transport and places using the whole of the verb aller in the present tense (plus a past and future reference).
Sentence builder with the hardest items glossed, first sentences to translate are easy and should be taken straight from the grid.
Followed by a section of similar sentences with some unknown items that the students should know from prior knowledge.
Finally a paragraph to translate with three time frames and gapped support.
A French worksheet to say where things are using next to, behind, in front of, top the right of etc.
Also covers places in a town.

Not a pretty worksheet but effective.
